The Pilates Method of body conditioning is
finally a 90-year-old, overnight success.
(New York, NY)- Although well-know since the
1920's in the dance world and recommended by Martha Graham and George Balanchine,
this low-impact, fitness method is now available to the general public
nationwide.
There are several interesting aspects of this
success story:
-
The Pilates Method can be used by an individual
-- from weekend warrior to professional athlete not only as a primary mode
of total body conditioning for both flexibility and strength, but as a
tool for injury prevention.
-
Rediscovered by physical therapists, chiropractors,
and orthopedists, The Pilates Method of body conditioning can be successfully
integrated into rehabilitative exercise and physical therapy programs designed
to speed the recovery of soft tissue injuries.
-
Celebrities and athletes who are devotees of The
Pilates Method include
Candice Bergen, Jodie Foster, Katharine Hepburn,
Madonna, Bill Murray, Martina Navratilova, Shalom Harlow, Uma Thurman,
Tommy Tune, SigourneyWeaver, Danny Glover,
Kristi Yamaguchi and Tiger Woods.
-
The exercise apparatus specifically designed by
Joseph H. Pilates for this exercise system includes unusual-looking wooden
platforms, leather straps, springs, and moving parts.
